This is
Raccoon Mario as he appears in
New Super Mario Bros. 2. This alternate form first appeared in
Super Mario Bros. 3. Mario will need a Super Leaf to transform into Raccoon Mario.
P.S.: Don't forget, even though
New Super Mario Bros. 2 take place in the modern
Mario era, it is chronologically directly after
New Super Mario Bros. and before the
Super Mario Galaxy installments, the other two
New Super Mario Bros. games and
Super Mario 3D Land. That was according to anyone who considers it as the direct sequel. However, recently, it's confirmed that
New Super Mario Bros. 2 follows the events after
New Super Mario Bros. Wii and other installments of the
Super Mario series.
